What is TIGER 21?

Michael Sonnenfeldt (Author & Chairman, Tiger 21)

Michael W. Sonnenfeldt, entrepreneur, founder, and chairman of TIGER 21, philanthropist and author, speaks with Sarder TV correspondent, Tracey Fitzpatrick, about the organization he founded. He explains the reasons for founding TIGER 21, also known as The Investment Group for Enhanced Results in the 21st Century, which is a peer-to-peer learning network for highly successful entrepreneurs. According to Sonnenfeldt, successful entrepreneurs are generally lousy investors and need advice on how to preserve their wealth and deal with legacy issues.

Tiger 21 is a peer network founded nearly 20 years ago for highly successful entrepreneurs who have experienced a major liquidity event, such as selling their business. The organization helps members navigate the transition from building wealth to managing and preserving it.

The founder explains that many entrepreneurs spend decades focused on growing their companies but suddenly face new challenges after an exit. These include learning how to preserve wealth, understanding investment strategies, planning their legacy, and considering how their wealth will impact future generations. Since entrepreneurs and investors often have very different skill sets, this transition can be difficult.

Tiger 21 provides a confidential community where members can openly discuss topics such as wealth management, family, philanthropy, health, and life after entrepreneurship without fear of judgment or exposure. The founder emphasizes that success can be isolating, and having a trusted group of peers creates an environment where meaningful conversations and personal growth can take place.

These experiences and observations inspired the ideas explored in the founder’s latest book, Think Bigger, particularly around the differences between entrepreneurial thinking and investing, and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right community during life’s biggest transitions.
