Mary Lamia, psychologist, psychoanalyst, author, and a professor at Wright Institute, talks with Sarder TV correspondent, Vanessa Tyler, about her life and her motivation for choosing her present career. She talks about how career choice is tied to our pasts. Lamia goes through her early work life which started at age twelve working at an auto wrecking yard on weekends and after school. According to Lamia, she learned early on that she loved listening to people and being able to help them.

After graduating from Syracuse University, she started her career in one of the toughest news markets in the country at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. Along the way, she reported in Rochester, New York and Charlotte, North Carolina. In Dayton, Ohio, Vanessa was ‘the most watched’ solo weekend anchor for the CBS affiliate.

She was also an Adjunct Professor at Essex County College passing on the knowledge of the news industry to those interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.
